Challenge KUL 07 : Sea-Ya Trash

CHALLENGES 2025

8/23/20251 min read

The ocean has become a dumping ground—and it’s time we turned the tide. Sea-Ya Trash is a bold, tech-powered challenge to tackle marine pollution head-on using AI, real-time data, and smart environmental design.

Our goal? To develop an intelligent web-based dashboard that connects with an AI-powered Seabin to detect, track, and map marine litter—especially plastics—in coastal areas. Using object detection models trained on real trash datasets, our Seabin will act as a floating environmental monitor, scanning and filtering waste while sending live data to the cloud.

The website will display trash types, timestamps, sensor readings (like pH, turbidity), and trash density heatmaps—making pollution visible, traceable, and actionable. Whether you’re a scientist, policymaker, or eco-enthusiast, you’ll be able to see what’s happening in our waters in real time.

Join us to build a future where ocean waste has nowhere to hide—and every bottle, bag, or can gets caught red-handed. Sea-Ya, Trash!

Over the 48 hours, we aim to develop a real-time, interactive web dashboard that connects with our AI-powered floating Seabin prototype. The platform will visualize trash detection results, sensor readings (like pH and turbidity), and Seabin deployment locations on a live map. We’ll train and integrate an object detection model (YOLOv8) to simulate the Seabin’s camera detecting marine litter. The web app will feature a trash detection log, environmental data charts, device status indicators, and alert functions—creating a smart ocean cleanup and monitoring tool.
